With thousands of porcelain tiles available in all shapes, sizes and finishes, choosing the right one can be an overwhelming experience. It’s important to bring your vision to life but also choose something that will last for years to come. Quality and design are at the forefront of our ranges at Living Space Tiles, so here’s our five top tips to consider when choosing tiles for your bathroom.
Choosing your bathroom tiles material
With all the condensation and splash in the bathroom, choosing the right tile material is a crucial decision. While there’s plenty of choices out there, porcelain tiles are the most common as they are hardwearing, absorb less water and require minimum maintenance. Unlike natural stone which may add more character but will need resealing overtime. Porcelain tiles also come in a wider selection of choices which means all the latest, trendy designs can be easily sourced.
Tile size
While it can be tempting to go for the latest trend of large format tiles, you should pick tiles based on your bathroom size. As a general rule of thumb, smaller tiles such as mosaic work well for smaller cloakrooms or enclosed spaces while large format tiles compliment mid-size and large bathrooms.
Choosing your bathroom tile colours
Your choice of tile colours really comes down to preference and you should not limit this by any means! Did you know the average person spends 30 minutes a day in the bathroom which adds up to 182 hours per year?! And with all the designs and variations available in porcelain tiles, the sky is the limit. However, if you have a smaller space, our suggestion is to go for brighter, light reflective colours.
Choosing a standout feature
What’s the first thing you want people to notice when they walk into the bathroom? Is it the patterned flooring, freestanding bath or shower enclosure? Whatever you decide, tiles are a great way to draw the eye. Choosing a different colour, pattern or even material to contrast with the rest of the bathroom is a great way to add some character.
Limit to three different tile designs
While we always encourage creativity when it comes to bathroom design, too many tile variations will ruin the feel of what you’re trying to create. Our golden rule is to limit to three different tile designs. Taking your first (must have) choice as a starting point, use it to make the decisions for the other tiles you will include in your design. If your must have is a
unique colour or pattern and is going to be the focal point of your design, pull more subtle colours from it to use in your accent tiles.
